Behind the Scenes: Curating an Engaging Introduction

Wether you make your own videos or hire someone to help you (which I recommend) you need to make a splash with your introduction. No splash = no views, no engagement.

Why The Intro is So Important

All social media platforms (including YouTube) care about is: user engagement.

As business owners we get busy, backed up. So we hire an expert, say a videographer to help us. But just because someone is a professional camera operator does not mean they can help you make engaging videos.

(Trust me, I learned this the hard-way many times.)

What Makes a Good Intro

Engagement.

If your videos (or pictures, or live streams) are not getting engaged with, they don't 'push them' into the feed.

So I advise all my clients to spend 80% of the time thinking about the intro of their video and only 20% of the time on the rest.

Huh?

Yes, it's that important.

A few tips you may find helpful:

  • Have depth of field (e.g. make background blurry)
  • Make sure audio is good
  • Ensure your message is in synch with your avatars needs and wants

Engagement Trumps All

When people land on your videos, they need to stick around, watch and hopefully, comment and share them.

This sends a message to Facebook, YouTube or Instagram to 'push' the content into people's feeds.

No engagement, no views.

If Your Videos Are Not Engaging, You're Hurting Your Brand

It's better to start somewhere than not to start at all...but if you make videos that suck--people will remember it. (And likely won't come back for more.)

How often have you gone back to a restaurant that served crappy food? (Not often, I'd imagine.)

Moreover,  if you invest an hour (or two or four) making a video--or paying someone else to make it for you--and it doesn't get traction--you've lost money.

And worse, you've lost time that you'll never get back.

(Trust me, I've been there.)

But what's worse than that, is you likely have a message that could help or even cure someone that's suffering.

More engaging videos help more people and as a side benefit, your business and influence get a lift.
